A Little Background Knowledge If You Are Going To Austria

Austria is a central European Country, which was once occupied by various Celtic tribes before the Roman Empire. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the region was subsequently invaded by Bavarians, Slavs and Avars. There were a number of kingdoms and establishments formed by the different peoples of Europe.

One Notable invasion was when Charlemagne conquered the area in 788AD, encouraged colonisation and introduced Christianity.

The other notable dynasty of the region before the World Wars is the Habsburg Monarchy. It covered the territories ruled by the Junior Austrian branch of the House of Habsburg (1278-1780). Different phases of the empire persisted until 1918, but the height of its powers was the Austrian Empire and later the Austria-Hungary Empire.

Post Habsburg Austria is no longer the force it was, but its position in central Europe and on a key section of the Danube trade route, means it is still strategic in the geography of Europe.

It was joined to Germany during Second World War, but the allies, when they defeated Germany in 1945, occupied the country and divided the country and its capital, Vienna into separate sectors. However there was a State Treaty which was signed by the Allies in 1955. It guaranteed the unification of the country, enabling it not to succumb to the fate of Germany which was split in half for years by the Soviets and the Western Cold War Blocs. In return Austria declared permanent neutrality.

The country is still neutral today. If you have never been to Austria and you are considering going, Hotel Vienna Danube is one of the many great place you might want to consider staying in. Hotels Vienna has a lot of great offers. Their holiday deals tend to be of a higher quality than what you might perhaps find in Eastern Europe or even the UK.
