Take A Trip To Vienna

Vienna is an ideal destination if you are looking for a European city steeped in cultural history where you can have a fantastic time following the stories woven through the city’s streets and architecture. Vienna was the birthplace and hometown of Levi Strauss, Sigmund Freud, Ludwig van Beethoven, the Von Trapp family and Arnold Schwarzenegger to name a few, and one is given a unique insight into Vienna by visiting the places in the city where these people’s legends unfolded.

The fact that my best friend Tom has a hotel that is located right in the centre of town means that I am a frequent visitor to Vienna due to the fact that he can get me a fantastic discount on a room and so I get really plush accommodation for a far cheaper price than you would pay for even a bog-standard room in most hotels in Vienna. The city generally is quite pricey and the cost of a room in most establishments reflects this fact, though there are still cheaper options to be found on the outskirts of the metropolis, especially towards the airport. My mate’s Tom’s place isn’t quite as nice as the Hilton Hotel Vienna, but then that is probably the nicest hotel in the city and my mate Tom’s is probably second or third. The Carlton is also very tasty.

When in the centre of town, make sure that you take the time to visit one of the two Sigmund Freud museums in the city. The godfather of psychiatry’s old house has been converted for visitors and one is able to learn more about his sometimes questionable practices by also visiting his old clinic: he famously employed cocaine as a truth serum to assist with accessing his patients’ hidden drives and thoughts, and also used prolonged isolation as another debatable method for assisting his patients with their psychological recovery.
