Innsbruck – the Alpine Capital of Austria

Innsbruck is famous for its winter spots, having hosted two Winter Olympics. The town is located in a broad valley between high mountains, and is also well connected with Verona to the south and Munich to the north via the easiest route through the Alps.

Skiing is a major tourist attraction, with a multitude of comfortable Innsbruck hotels. Wintertime is also for snowboarding and crazy ski jumps, but there is much to do in the summertime too -
cable car rides to the magnificent Alpine Garden south of the city, hikes for mountaineers, the glaciated terrain of the Stubai Valley makes skiing possible even in summer months.

With history dating back to Roman times, Innsbruck has been an important strategic point for the rulers of the Holy Roman Empire and Austria, apparent in the very architecture, starting with the Ambras Castle, also the Imperial Palace, the Baroque Cathedral St. Jakob, along with many churches, civic buildings and a triumphal arch. Also check out the Golden Roof building which was constructed for emperor Maximilian in 1500 under gilded copper tile.

The Schloss Ambras Castle is not the most impressive from without, as it is an art museum of the highest order, housing a portrait gallery with about 300 portraits from the 15th to 19th century. Be sure to check out the Chamber of Art and Curiosities inside the building. There are many other fine museums in Innsbruck as well, including the Bell Museum and the Riesenrundgemälde. The Armoury has a large collection of arms and armour, fine examples of the Renaissance warfare.

The capital of Tyrol is a perfect place to celebrate a well deserved holiday. Check out the latest website where you can find out about which Innsbruck hotel best suits you.
