Attractions at Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has a long and colourful history, dating back to 1896. Founded by Alderman William George Bean, it was originally one of two sister parks – the other being Hotchkiss's Patented Railroad, a short-lived amusement park in Great Yarmouth.

Unlike its ill-fated twin, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has gone from strength to strength over the years, and nowadays is one of the more popular theme parks in the UK. Situated on the Fylde Coast of Blackpool, the Pleasure Beach is home to a vast array of rollercoasters, themed rides and children’s play areas.

Attractions at the Blackpool Pleasure Beach include the glittering Pleasure Beach Casino, which is situated near the entrance plaza. In this area visitors will find the majority of the park’s shops and food courts, including the official gift shop, a range of catering kiosks (including the UK’s largest Burger King outlet), and the White Tower Restaurant. This is also the best place to find Blackpool Pleasure Beach hotels.

Of the twelve rollercoasters at the park, five are constructed entirely from wood – the Grand National, Big Dipper, Nickelodeon Streak, Wild Mouse and Blue Flyer. These more traditional rides stand in a stark contrast to state-of-the-art new attractions, such as the recently opened Infusion.

The park is also home to the Pepsi Max Big One, which at a height of 65 metres, is still the UK’s tallest ride. In fact, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has a long history of pioneering rides; Irn-Bru Revolution was the first fully inverting steel coaster in Europe, while the park’s flagship ride, Valhalla, claims the title of the ‘biggest and most spectacular dark ride in the world’. Other areas such as Nickelodeon Land, are aimed at providing slightly less exhilarating entertainment for younger children.

Of course, it’s not all death-defying rides and restaurant chains on a holiday to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. There are plenty of relaxing pursuits on offer in the area, including some superb golf courses; if you’re looking to stay at a UK Golf hotel, then look no further than Blackpool Northshore Golf Club or the nearby Blackpool Park Golf Club.

With such a diverse range of attractions on offer, there really is something for everyone on a holiday to Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
